Co-founder or charter member of numerous local institutions in Hamilton, including the local lyceum, fire company, theater company, and the county agricultural association.
One of four Hamilton, Ohio editors in Congress between the 1820s and the 1850s, along with John Woods, John B.Weller, and Lewis D. Campbell ( an apprentice in Woods' newspaper office).
Moved to New Orleans in 1863.
